How is auth handled in Claude Code?

With an API key header: Authorization: Bearer nj_sk_… passed via --header at add time. Create keys at ninjachat.ai → Developers → Keys. There's no OAuth dance in the terminal — that's only for claude.ai and ChatGPT web.

Can I add the server for all my projects at once?

Yes — pass --scope user to claude mcp add. Local scope (default) keeps it to the current project, and project scope (.mcp.json) shares config with teammates — but never commit a real key; use an env expansion instead.

What's the killer use case in a CLI agent?

Budgeted bakeoffs. compare_models runs one prompt across several models under a hard cost cap and returns per-model cost and latency — so “find me the best $0.25 hero image” is a single tool call, not a manual loop.

Can Claude Code check spend before a big batch?

Yes. estimate_cost prices any job before running it and get_account_balance reports remaining credits and spending-limit headroom — both are free calls. Failed generations refund automatically, and idempotent requests make retries safe.

Does the server work in non-interactive (CI) runs?

Yes — it's a plain HTTP MCP server with header auth, so headless claude runs can use it too. Give CI its own nj_sk_ key with a tight spending limit so a runaway job can't drain the account.

Which models can it use?

All 22: 11 image models from FLUX.1 Schnell ($0.003) and z-image-turbo ($0.01) to gpt-image-2 ($0.128), plus 9 video models — Seedance Lite, Pro and 2.0, Kling 2.6, Runway Gen-4.5, and Veo 3.1 Fast/Quality — priced per second from $0.036/s (Seedance Lite) to $0.40/s (Veo 3.1), 4-second minimum.

Troubleshooting

When it doesn't connect.

/mcp lists ninjachat as “failed”

Check the key and endpoint. Keep --header at the end of the add command. If ninjachat already exists, update that entry instead of adding it again.

Works in one project but not another

The server was added with local scope (the default). Re-add with --scope user to register it across every project on the machine.

Tool calls fail with 402 / insufficient credits

Balance is empty or the monthly spending limit is hit. Call add_credits, open the checkout_url for the user, then retry. Raise a monthly limit at ninjachat.ai → Developers → Billing. get_account_balance shows current headroom without spending anything.

Long video jobs look stuck

Video generation is async and can take a few minutes. Claude Code should poll get_generation_status — if it gave up, just ask it to check the job again; nothing is lost and nothing double-bills.
